Rachael Tyler-Bacon

Rachael is an artist living and working in Whitby, flanked by the sea, the moors and ancient woodlands.
Rachael graduated from Leeds University in 2001 with a BA (Hons) Fine Art, followed by a sustained period painting life models and ‘en plein air’ landscapes. In 2006 she was awarded a Queen Elizabeth Scholarship in printmaking leading to commissions and collaborations including the ‘Glass of Water’ print in the Turner Prize entry in 2009 with Lucy Skaer.. After some time setting up artist’s studios in Northumberland, and North Yorkshire, Rachael is also Co-Director of Loftus Studios CIC.

Rachael’s landscape and allegorical figurative paintings in mainly acrylic and oils are concerned with the experience of living, responding to intangible moments, difficult to express in words, for example: the sensation of moving through time, light and colour from a boat. Edvard Munch, Odilon Redon and Pierre Bonnard were key early influences.
